Course Description: This course involves the basic understanding of number, operation and quantitative reasoning, patterns, relationships, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement, personal finance, probability and statistics. These are essential to prepare students for Algebra I and other higher high school mathematics..


Textbook and Materials

  • Texas Go Math
  • STAAR Material Supplement
  • 4 Spiral Notebooks 70 Page
  • Paper, Pencils, Red pen, High-lighter, markers/crayons
  • 1 box of Kleenex


General course information:

  • tests, projects, and interactive notebook              = 60%
  • quizzes, daily work, classroom participation      = 40%
  • Refer to Student handbook for policy concerning homework, make-up work, retesting, and attendance rules.  Student is responsible for picking up and turning in makeup work on a timely manner.


Pacing Guide (subject to change)

1.         First nine weeks we will cover Unit 1 and part of Unit 2 – Expressions and the number system. Proportional and Nonproportional Relationships and Functions.

2.                  Second nine weeks we will cover the rest Unit 2 and Unit 3 – Proportional and Nonproportional Relationships and Function and Equations and Inequalities.

3.         Third nine weeks we will cover Unit 4, Unit 5 and Unit 6 – Transformational Geometry, Statistics and Samples, and Personal Financial Literacy.

4.                  Fourth nine weeks we will cover Units 4 and 5 – The basics of Algebra.
