Reading Journal Procedures:Cover Assignment:

  1. Design a front and back cover for your journal.  It needs to reflect your personality and likings.  You may draw your own pictures, make a collage with magazine pictures, use stickers, or a combination of each.  Your first and last name must be easily visible on the cover.  Copying and pasting one or two pictures from the internet will not be sufficient.  Cover must be neat, display color, and show effort.

  2. Table of Contents:

Be sure to label the first two pages of your journal Table of Contents.  Number all the lines on your table of contents.

  3. Title Page:

The first page (after the Table of Contents) will be used as a Title Page for the novel you are reading. On this page, be sure to write the title of the book and the author’s name.  (This page will be used for an assignment in class.)

  4. Chapter Summaries:

You will be required to write a well-written summary for each chapter on its own page that includes the chapter number at the top.  Be sure to mention the main events of each chapter along with the main characters, setting, problem, and any resolutions that might have happened.  You will also need to draw a picture that represents the main event of that chapter.  This picture must be detailed and colored.

  5. Review of Book:

After you have completed the book and summaries, you will need to write a review of your book on the page following the last chapter page.  Explain what you liked and disliked about the book with reasons or examples.  Your review should be written neatly.

This reading journal will be used in class for the entire year.
Once the school year begins each individual teacher will have an appropriate assessment for the novel assigned. The summer reading journal assignment assessment specified by the teacher will be included for a grade during the first quarter of the 2018 academic year.

Your Reading Journal is due on the first day of school.
